English - Autumn 1 & 2
During Autumn Term, we have focussed on descriptive and emotive language in writing. This includes the five senses, alliteration, similes and metaphors (there are loads more than this!). We have been using them within our writing for a character description of Jemmy Button - the main character of our Power of Reading book, and for our retelling of the story, where we have changed the setting and character, but kept the same theme. Also, we have been able to identify and use grammar that we have learnt, such as determiners and expanded noun phrases.
English - Spring 1 & 2
Our new book is called Mouse, Bird, Snake, Wolf by David Almond. For English this term, we will be learning new skills about writing a letter and creating our own graphic novel, retelling the story.
During this year, we have been developing our vocabulary and spelling by focusing on the Year 3/4 Statutory Vocabulary List. Children will be randomly tested on these words throughout the year. Weekly spellings will also be given out every Friday to be tested on the following Friday.
