In Spring 2, we are going to be writing a non-chronological report about hibernation, based on the story Winter Sleep: A Hibernation Story by Alex Morss. This story has facts about how different animals hibernate in the winter months, from the perspective of a little boy and their grandma. It also has facts at the back of the book about each animal!

The focus for our non-chronological report is co-ordinating and subordinating conjunctions, question sentences and commas in a list.

After our non-chronological report, we going to write an explanation text about plants.

- All About the Write Stuff: Jane Considine -

The Write Stuff is based on two guiding principles; teaching sequences that slide between experience days and sentence stacking lessons. With modelling at the heart of them, the sentence stacking lessons are broken into bite-sized chunks and taught under the structural framework of The Writing Rainbow. Teachers prepare children for writing by modelling the ideas, grammar or techniques of writing.

Key aspects of The Write Stuff system include:

🌟 The Write Stuff builds pupils’ confidence with sentence structure.

🌟 The approach widens the repertoire of writing options for pupils.

🌟 Pupils gain an understanding of the ‘whole’ piece that they are writing.

🌟 Organisation of their ideas and cohesion between them is strengthened.

The Write Stuff, created by Jane Considine, is a system that will sharpen the teaching and learning of writing within your classroom. It is research informed and practically applies evidence into effective best bets for improving writing outcomes.
