Welcome to the Robins class page. On here you will find out about important dates and our learning journey for the year.

Spring 2 - Amazing Explorers

This half term, our intent for the children is to develop their spoken language in order to discuss and perform a story . Through a talk for writing approach, we have learnt and rehearsed 'Ruby's Worry' and we will be writing our own version from the worries perspective.

As Historians, we will be learning about the life of Christopher Columbus. We will identify who Christopher Columbus is, why he is a significant person, how his actions change the way we do things today and recall interesting facts from his sea voyage.

As Geographers, we will be learning about the Caribbean. We will identify human and physical features and compare a farm with the seaside.

As Scientists, we will be learning about animals including humans. To do this, we will:

  • identify and name a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.
  • identify and name a variety of common animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.

Phonics

Our approach to learning phonics is through using Letters and Sounds: Principles and Practice of High Quality Phonics.

Letters and Sounds provides us with games and resources to support our teaching of phonics. It aims to build pupils’ speaking and listening skills, as well as prepare pupils to learn to read, by developing their phonic knowledge and skills. It sets out a detailed programme for teaching phonic skills, with the aim of pupils becoming fluent readers.

Reading

Please can reading books and reading journals come to school every day. When reading with your child, ask questions about their book, ask what they liked about the book and write a comment in their journal to let us know how they are getting on.
