Road Safety Week 2025
Road Safety Week
As part of Road Safety Week, our school embraced a whole-school approach to ensuring our pupils are equipped with the knowledge and skills to stay safe in their local communities. We proudly hosted engaging and age-appropriate workshops that highlighted the importance of road safety, personal responsibility, and being active, safe citizens.
These sessions supported several key rights from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC):
Article 3 – Adults must always do what is best for children.
Article 12 – Every child has the right to express their views and be listened to.
Article 19 – Every child has the right to be protected from harm.
Article 24 – Every child has the right to the best possible health.
Article 28 – Every child has the right to an education.
Our Reception pupils took part in a fun and interactive session focused on the basics of road safety, including how to cross the road safely, recognising traffic signals, and the importance of being alert and visible near roads. It was a valuable opportunity to embed early understanding of safe behaviours in real-world situations.
Our Year 6 children engaged in a more in-depth workshop around transition to secondary school, which explored safe routes to local high schools, managing new journeys, and thinking ahead about the decisions they’ll need to make to stay safe. This session encouraged independence while reinforcing responsibility and awareness of surroundings.
In addition to these workshops, other year groups across the school also explored the theme of road safety through classroom-based discussions, creative tasks, and themed activities. From designing posters to role-playing safe crossings, children of all ages were able to reflect on their role in staying safe and how their actions can protect both themselves and others.
The week was a fabulous success, creating a buzz across the school, reinforcing important children’s rights, and helping all pupils develop confidence, awareness, and life skills to stay safe now and in the future.
