As a school, we have adopted a new scheme of work for phonics. We are now following read, write, inc RWI.
Phonics is a vital part in helping children learn to read. Each lesson, children are taught a new phoneme (sound). They are shown how to write the sound (grapheme) and apply this new knowledge in their practical work. The children use 'Fred Talk' to decode words to help them to read and blend.
Children are also exposed to the Tricky Words relative to their phonics phase. These words are words the children need to learn by sight- they cannot be sounded out.
