The Nurture Pod
The Nurture Pod
At Sacred Heart we believe that promoting the wellbeing of our children is an important part of their overall education. To support this, we are able to offer Social, Emotional and Nurturing interventions for small group work and individual sessions.
The Nurture space is an invaluable resource at Sacred Heart. It provides a bridge between home and school; a place where children can feel safe and secure to explore their emotional and social well-being, learn about themselves, develop and grow.
The room is an essential part of the school’s inclusion and PSHE provision. Research shows that children’s learning is most effective when they have a sense of emotional well-being, good self-esteem and a feeling of belonging. The Nurture Room provides children with this opportunity, helping to develop maturity and resilience.
The philosophy of the Nurture Pod is drawn from the six principles established by the work of Marjorie Boxall and others.
- Children’s learning is understood developmentally
- The classroom offers a safe base
- All behaviour is communication
- The importance of nurture for the development of well being
- Language is a vital means of communication
- The importance of transition in children’s lives.
