RSHE at Sacred Heart Primary School

Our RSHE curriculum focuses on developing the knowledge, understanding and skills that children need to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships, while building their confidence and self-efficacy. These outcomes reflect our school's core values and underpin our teaching and learning, preparing pupils to become responsible, respectful, resourceful and resilient citizens. Our curriculum has been developed in line with the 2026 statutory guidance for Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education. It is fully aligned with the PSHE Association Programme of Study, ensuring that learning is age-appropriate, evidence-informed and designed to help pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to thrive both now and in the future.

Implementation of RSHE

We deliver a comprehensive spiral curriculum right from EYFS through to Year 6, addressing key themes using a developmental approach.

British Values

Our RSHE curriculum includes an understanding of the law, individual liberty and related responsibilities, acceptance and tolerance resulting in mutual respect and a deeper understanding of diversity and how this impacts society for the greater good. We teach and foster a culture of tolerance and acceptance in all aspects of school life.

We examine democracy and encourage the pupils to articulate their views and beliefs through debate and discussion using our school council model as a vehicle. We promote a programme of equality, self-awareness and responsibility. We expose pupils to a wide range of social and cultural events that are celebrated by our diverse communities in Sandwell. Sacred Heart Primary is a positive learning environment where all members of our community are valued.

Our CRIC Values

At Sacred Heart, our school values of Courage, Resilience, Independence and Communication (CRIC) are at the heart of everything we do. These values are woven throughout school life and are explicitly taught and developed through our RSHE curriculum. They help our pupils to become confident, respectful and responsible members of the school community and beyond.

Assemblies

Our whole-school, Key Stage, OPAL and class assemblies reinforce the knowledge, skills and values taught through our RSHE curriculum. Assemblies provide opportunities for pupils to explore our CRIC values, British Values and the principles of being a Rights Respecting School, encouraging them to reflect on how these can be demonstrated in everyday life.

At Sacred Heart, we also use Picture News to help children understand current events and issues, encouraging them to think critically, express their opinions respectfully and develop an interest in the world around them.
