Wellbeing Mentors
Our Wellbeing and Learning Mentors
At Sacred Heart Primary School, we recognise the importance of supporting pupils’ emotional wellbeing alongside their academic development. Our Wellbeing Mentors play a key role in supporting children with learning needs and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to feel safe, understood and ready to learn.
Our Wellbeing and Learning Mentors work closely with pupils on a one-to-one or small group basis to provide targeted emotional support. They help children to co-regulate and develop a deeper understanding of their emotions, gradually supporting them to build the skills needed for self-regulation.
This support may include helping pupils to manage their feelings, develop resilience, build positive relationships, and strengthen their confidence and self-esteem. They also work with children to develop practical strategies for managing challenges and responding to difficult situations in a calm and constructive way.
In addition, our Wellbeing and Learning Mentors work alongside class teachers, the SENDCo and families to ensure a consistent approach to supporting each child. They may contribute to planning, share strategies that are working well, and help to identify any additional needs or concerns.
Support sessions may focus on areas such as social skills, friendship issues, anxiety, anger management, or difficulties linked to learning and school engagement. A variety of approaches are used, including talk time, structured activities, and nurture-based interventions.
Through this support, Wellbeing Mentors help pupils to develop emotional security and positive attitudes towards learning, enabling them to fully access school life and make meaningful progress.
