Sky Arts Week 2026
Sky Arts Week 2026
What a fantastic week we have had celebrating Sky Arts Week at Sacred Heart! Throughout the week, our pupils were immersed in a wide range of creative experiences that inspired imagination, built confidence and encouraged self-expression through the arts.
Sky Arts Week provided an excellent opportunity for children to explore their creativity while developing important life skills. The week linked closely to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, particularly Article 13, which recognises every child's right to express their thoughts and ideas, and Article 31, which highlights the right to participate in cultural and artistic activities. It also promoted key British Values, including individual liberty, mutual respect and appreciation of the diverse talents and contributions of others.
Throughout the week, our children demonstrated our school drivers of CRIC – Courage, Resilience, Independence and Communication. They showed courage when performing in front of others, resilience when learning new skills, independence when making creative choices and excellent communication when collaborating with their peers and sharing their ideas.
One of the highlights of the week was our Rock Steady concert, where pupils showcased their musical talents in front of an audience of proud parents, staff and fellow pupils. The concert was a wonderful celebration of music, teamwork and confidence, and it was clear to see how much the children had developed as performers throughout the year. The enthusiasm and support from the audience made the event even more special.
We were also delighted to welcome actor Rupi back to Sacred Heart. Many of our pupils will have remembered meeting him during Careers Week, and his return provided an exciting opportunity for children to learn more about the world of acting and performance. Rupi shared his experiences of working in television and film, including his appearance in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and inspired pupils to pursue their ambitions with determination and self-belief.
To round off an incredible week, we welcomed renowned children's author and illustrator Steve Smallman, best known for his much-loved book Poo in the Zoo. Steve captivated the children with stories about his career, the creative process behind his books and the importance of imagination in storytelling. His visit was particularly special as he had previously supported our school with artwork linked to the Network Rail project. The children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to work alongside a professional author and illustrator and gained valuable insight into the world of publishing.
Sky Arts Week has been a tremendous success, providing unforgettable experiences and inspiring our children to embrace creativity in all its forms. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to making the week such a memorable celebration of the arts.
