Parent Workshops
In the build-up to NSPCC Number Day, Sacred Heart Primary was delighted to host a series of maths workshops for parents of children in Years 1 to 5. The workshops aimed to give parents a deeper understanding of how maths is taught at our school and how they can support learning at home.
During the sessions, parents explored the Mastery Approach, which encourages children to develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, rather than just learning procedures. They also learned about the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) method, a key strategy that helps children grasp new ideas by moving from hands-on activities, to visual representations, to abstract thinking.
A highlight of the workshops was when parents took part in a maths lesson alongside their children, experiencing first-hand how lessons are structured and how children are encouraged to think critically and problem-solve. Teachers also shared the End of Year Expectations, giving parents a clear picture of the skills their children are working towards.
The workshops were a huge success, providing families with practical strategies, resources, and confidence to support maths learning at home. By engaging parents in this way, Sacred Heart Primary continues to strengthen the partnership between school and home, ensuring that children receive consistent support and encouragement both in the classroom and beyond.
