PE
PE Kits and Curriculum
PE lessons take place on Thursday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor) afternoons for both classes. Children must bring their PE kits to school on these days - children will get changed in school and PE kits will be sent home. Correct PE kit is a plain t-shirt (white or blue), black shorts/joggers and either pumps or trainers (indoors) and trainers (outdoors).
If there are any changes to this, children will be informed ahead of time.
We use the GetSet4Education platform and curriculum plans to teach PE. Here are the Year 2 curriculum topics for this year:

Spring 2 Topics
In Spring 2, children in Year 2 will be focusing on fitness (indoor) and invasion games (outdoor).
In our fitness unit, children will begin to explore and develop agility, balance, co-ordination, speed and stamina. They will be given the opportunity to work independently and with others, developing perseverance and determination.
In our invasion games unit, children will focus on the games where there are two teams and two goals. Teams will try to score in the opposition's goal, for example in football, handball, rugby, netball, basketball or hockey. They develop their understanding of the principles of defending and attacking for invasion games.
Spring 1 Topics
In Spring 1, children in Year 2 will be focusing on target games (indoor) and net and wall games (outdoor).
In our target games unit, children will develop the skills of throwing, rolling and striking towards a target and will be given opportunities to select and apply the appropriate action for the target considering the size and distance of the challenge.
In our net and wall games unit, children develop their understanding of attacking and defending principles in net games such as using a ready position to defend their court and placement of a ball into space; and develop skills such as throwing, catching, tracking and hitting a ball.
Autumn 2 Topics
In Autumn 2, children in Year 2 will be focusing on team-building (indoor) and ball skills (outdoor).
In our ball skills unit, children will develop their fundamental skills such as throwing, catching, rolling, hitting a target, dribbling with both hands and feet as well as kicking a ball. They will look to perform these skills with increasing control and accuracy using co-ordination and balance.
In our team-building unit, children will develop their teamwork skills and key communication and problem-solving skills. They learn to discuss, plan and reflect on ideas and strategies. They lead a partner whilst considering safety, show honesty and fair play in team games, and learn how to use basic map skills.
Autumn 1 Topics
In Autumn 1, children in Year 2 will be focusing on gymnastics (indoor) and fundamentals (outdoor).
In our gymnastics unit, children develop gymnastic skills of jumping, rolling, balancing and travelling individually and in combination to create a short sequence of movement phrases.
In our fundamentals unit, children develop the fundamental skills of balancing, running, changing direction, jumping, hopping and skipping. Pupils will be given opportunities to work with different equipment and will observe and recognise improvements in their own and others' skills.
