Calculation Policy
Calculation Policy
A calculation policy is a clear framework that sets out how mathematical calculations are taught across the school, ensuring consistency, progression, and clarity for both staff and pupils. Our calculation policy is fully aligned with the National Curriculum, covering the development of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division across each year group. It follows a mastery approach, using the Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract (CPA) progression to build deep understanding: pupils first explore concepts with physical resources, then represent them visually, and finally apply abstract written methods. This approach ensures that all children develop fluency, confidence, and the ability to reason mathematically, while providing a consistent structure that supports learning at every stage.
