Road Safety Week 2025
Road Safety Week
Road Safety Week is a national event focused on helping everyone understand how to stay safe on and around our roads, linking closely to the Rights of the Child, particularly the right to be safe and protected from harm. It takes place in November every year. Throughout the week, pupils took part in immersive workshops delivered either by Sandwell Council or by our teachers during PSHE, giving everyone the chance to learn important skills for travelling safely. Year 6 looked at the transition from Primary to Secondary and staying safe during their travels. We were also incredibly lucky to have Karl, our IT Technician—and a track cycling winner—bring in his bikes and equipment to share his expertise, making the experience even more memorable and inspiring for our children.
Tips for Children:
- Always stop, look and listen before crossing the road.
- Use crossings whenever possible and wait for the signal before stepping out.
- Make sure you can be seen – wear bright or reflective clothing, especially in winter.
- Never use your phone or headphones when crossing; stay alert to what’s around you.
- Ride your bike safely by wearing a helmet and following the rules of the road.
Tips for Parents:
- Be a role model by showing safe road-crossing habits.
- Hold younger children’s hands near roads and keep them close in busy areas.
- Teach children how to spot safe places to cross and practise together.
- Make sure bikes and scooters are well maintained and that children wear the right safety gear.
- Plan safer routes to school, avoiding busy roads where possible.
